A Labour Market Impact Assessment (LMIA) is a document issued by Employment and Social Development Canada (ESDC) that allows Canadian employers to hire foreign workers when no qualified Canadian citizens or permanent residents are available for the job.
✅ Who Can Apply?
You may be eligible for a work permit extension if:
You are currently in Canada with valid status.
You continue to meet the conditions of your current work permit.
You apply before the permit expires.
📅 When to Apply?
Ideally 30 days before your current permit expires.
If you apply in time, you may qualify for maintained status (formerly implied status), allowing you to keep working under the same conditions while IRCC processes your application.
