Hire Foreign Workers the Right Way

A Labour Market Impact Assessment (LMIA) is a document issued by Employment and Social Development Canada (ESDC) that allows Canadian employers to hire foreign workers when no qualified Canadian citizens or permanent residents are available for the job.

✅ Who Can Apply?

You may be eligible for a work permit extension if:

  • You are currently in Canada with valid status.

  • You continue to meet the conditions of your current work permit.

  • You apply before the permit expires.

📅 When to Apply?

  • Ideally 30 days before your current permit expires.

  • If you apply in time, you may qualify for maintained status (formerly implied status), allowing you to keep working under the same conditions while IRCC processes your application.
