Not all foreign workers require a Labour Market Impact Assessment (LMIA) to obtain a Canadian work permit. Under certain programs and international agreements, LMIA-exempt work permits allow individuals to work in Canada without an employer needing to prove a labor shortage.

Valid passport or travel document

Proof of funds (bank statements, GIC, scholarships, etc.)
Statement of Purpose (SOP) explaining study plans
Medical exam (if required) and police clearance
